Health authorities in South China have still not confirmed the suspected SARS case in Guangdong. They cannot find an infection source or extract the virus from the patient in question. A WHO team on Wednesday continued to help the Chinese experts conduct tests and track down people who may have had contact with the patient.

On Wednesday, experts from the WHO and the Chinese Ministry of Health inspected the home of the patient in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province. They also examined a drugstore near the complex, where the patient bought medicine before he went to hospital and had close contact with the staff.

The patient is in stable situation and no one who had previously been in close contact with him is showing abnormal symptoms.

A WHO official says China's anti-SARS system is now strong enough to prevent a big SARS outbreak.
