In an exclusive interview with China Central Television, Julie Hall, the SARS team leader for the World Health Organization's China office, said she has received a report from the Chinese Health Ministry on the suspected SARS case in Guangdong. The WHO is now awaiting the outcome of tests that are still underway.

Julie Hall said reports showed that the SARS case in Guangdong was discovered, isolated and reported promptly, and other preventative measures, including contact tracing, were also carried out.

Hall said, "The government is doing all the precautionary measures...The measures has put into place."

Hall said the SARS prevention system in China was working, and because of this the epidemic could be kept under control.

Hall added, "The government has spent a huge commitment... So the system is working."

The WHO official said a large SARS outbreak in China was not likely. She also said she was encouraged by the information sharing and close working relationship that had developed between the world health body and the Chinese Health Ministry.
