Hello everyone, I`m Zoe, welcome to Goal, Unit4, part 3.
In the last part, Alex decided to keep Manni in the reserve team,
Emma, Sophie and Joe were very excited. But Lucia seemed not so happy about it,
she only wanted to go shopping.
Right, Alex made a wise decision. But how Manni will perform in the reserve game?
Has he got ready for it? Let's have a look.
You've done a good job. I'm impressed. The lad's really come on.
"Come on lads, a bit more effort!"
Alex used this sentence to encourage the players to play harder. Similarly we can say,
"Come on, guys, you can do it."
Zoe
Come on, we will be late.
Come on, cheer up!
Oh, come on, help me.
But don't think that your job's done. We've still got to
make this team the best in the league. Hopefully Manni can help us.
Well, obviously it's your decision, but don't push him too far, too soon.
The best thing is to give him time, let him develop.
Would Alex accept Sophie's advice? What he would say?
I haven't got time. I need Manni to perform now.
Rangers have got to move up the league. We've got to push Manni. Got it?
I need Manni to perform now. Rangers have got to move up the league.
We've got to push Manni. Got it?
Here "move up" means to go forward. Here both Sophie and Alex used the word "push".
To push someone means to make someone work very hard.
He pushes his students very hard.
He's been pushing himself too much.
Just now, Alex used a very shot but very powerful sentence to finish his words.
He said, "Got it?" "Got it?" means "Have you understood what I said?"
But "Got it" sounds very cool, and full of strength.
"Got it?"
Hey, Cui Song, I've been thinking. Why is Alex so much in a hurry?
London Rangers is already very good. He can take it easy and give Manni time to develop。
Right, that's why many football clubs would spend a lot of money buying new players.
Because good players mean success and money. OK, let's watch this conversation once again.
But it also means great pressure on Manni. That's what Sophie was worrying about.
She said:This reserve game. It's nothing, huh?
It's nothing means it's not important at all.
It's nothing, huh?
Yes. For example, you will help a friend to move to a new house,
and your friend is worried about her piles of books. "My god,
it will take days to get the books out of the shelves and package them!"
You can say, "Don't worry. It's nothing. I can finish the job in three hours. "
As a London native and top player of Rangers,
Paul had much more advantages than that of Manni.
He said:I know London. Where would you like to go? I know all the best shops...
and I even know Xavier Soyeux.
Paul tried his best to get closer to Lucia.
Lucia.
Things look not so good for Manni now. Emma also feels hurt.
Xavier Soyeux,
In addition, Paul also invited Lucia to go to the game and see how Manni got along
in the reserve game. Here "go along" means to go together.
I'll go along with you, if you don't mind.
Maybe she wants to confide to Manni?
He said:She is just trying to annoy me.
She doesn't understand how important this reserve game is for me.
She is annoyed that he has not answered her letter.
The noise you made with that machine really annoyed your neighbor.
Emma didn`t say any bad words of Lucia, but console Manni,
she just says that Lucia has no idea how the system works。
But Emma knows about it,right?Cause she is responsible for
looking after all the foot-ballers。
She knows that the Reserves Match is very important to Manni。
So Manni cherish this opportunity very much。
He really want to perform well in the coming match。
Emma want to be a designer,so she tell Manni her feeling:
It's the same in any job. I`ve got to start from the bottom。
Start from the bottom means to start from the very beginning,
from the lowest level. We often say this when describing one's career.
Can Manni go from the bottom to the top?
bottom最底层,Start from the bottom , 从最底层开始。
Emma thought that Lucia should be helping Manni rather than trying to ask him away.
。。不如。。。”
He is a writer rather than a teacher.
Rather than Johe do it, I'd rather prefer to do the job myself.
Let`s have a look!
In the London Rangers changing room, Manni was always worried something will go wrong.
Something will go wrong means something bad will happen.
This is a very commonly used expression. but Joe thinks everything will be fine.
I'm worried something will go wrong.
Then how did Joe comfort Manni? Yes, he said, "You'll be fine."
This is again a very commonly used expression.
People say it to comfort someone who is worried or lack of confidence.
For example, when your friend is taking an operation in a minute,
and she is trembling with fear, you must say, "You'll be fine.
The surgeon is very good. I will pray for you."
Zoe, I am pretty worried myself. I'm seeing the dentist tomorrow.
Don't worry. Close your eyes and trust the dentist.
Pretend to be a robot, then you will be fine.
Oh really, we are honored.
I was exceedingly honored to be so honored.
He was honored with the degree of Ph.D.
Jim
I suppose it has nothing to do with worrying about how good the new lads may be.
Are the other team any good then?
They're playing five internationals, all coming back from from injury.
Which is also a rule of British football club.
When a player got injured in a game, who would stop formal games for recovery.
Before he returns to the first team, he would stay in the reserve team,
and often attend the games of reserves.
But Jim is not confident of Manni being a forward. Will he be okay up front against them?
He's playing against a tough defence, that's for sure.
Right, to her, go shopping is more important than Manni's game.
Now Manni is finally playing on the pitch.
It's a hard game for him. While Manni is fighting for his chance,
Paul and Lucia are having fun shopping in London.
首先我们复习了come on ,push sb.,的用法,
annoy sb., go along,
start from the bottom, rather than,
Got it?
I'm worried that something will go wrong.
It's nothing. You will be fine.
You may wonder: How Manni will do in the game?
Ranger's reserve team will win or loses?
How will the relationship go among the heroes and heroines of our story?
